Darlene (Shelstad) Mumm

A lot has happened in my life. On January 8, 2000, I collapsed at Dad's from overwork( I worked 70 - 80 hours per week) He was in Hawaii, I went into full respiratory arrest and full cardiac arrest. The ambulance took me to Faribault, It took them 2 hours to stabilize me and then air-lifted me to Rochester where I had a stroke(awful) I was there for two months and then the Doctors gave up and put me in a Nursing Home(terrible) When I left the doctor told my sister that I would never walk or talk again, she said 'YOU DON'T KNOW MY SISTER' with the help of wonderful therapists and many friends and family, I left the Nursing home after three weeks and went back to my home. I walked with a walker and could talk, but had trouble relaying what I wanted to say (still do sometimes). I then, with the help of my family, moved to an apartment in a handicapped unit.(perfect) It was right across the street from the nursing home I was in, so I volunteered there and at the Salvation Army down the street. In August I had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator inserted in my heart to keep me going.


I met John at the Hubbell house with my Dad. in July 2000. He is a gentle man with a big heart We were married on September 13.2003. It was an inexpensive wedding, but a beautiful one. All of our kids stood up for us and our grandchildren were flower girls and ring barriers. We bought a house in Owatonna. We now have 10 grandchildren between us and two great grandchildren.


I spend my time taking care of the house and volunteering at the Salvation Army when I am not at my kids. Wendy lives in Frederick, Colorado and has three children Kalee, 13, Zachary 9, and Melanie 6. Her and Kody have been married 15 years. David is married to Gloria for 9 years,amd lives in Hudson, Wisconsin. he has a step-son with two lovely children, Jentai 6 and Kyan 3. Darin lives in Pinewood, MN with his wife Amy of 16 years, and their two girls, Isabelle 8 and Emily 5. Waneta lives in St Cloud with her husband of 12 years, Kip and their two children, Keelan 4 and Hannah 15 months.I go to my kids, except David's at least twice a year.
